Last week Germany held its yearly IT-summit in Saarbrücken, a regional city close to the French border. The region which is well known for its “old industries” of mine, coal and steel. But since a couple of years, new technologies find their place in that region, especially due to the local university.
The IT summit put its focus on the digitization and the challenges it brings about. Questions about IT security, future mobility and latest developments of digital networks.
Digitization progresses at a fast pace. In Anglo-Saxon countries even faster than in Europe. But especially for Germany´s “Mittelstand” it holds a couple of impressive challenges. IT security probably is the most important. Small and medium sized companies face more difficulties than huge international companies in securing their data. But they have to, otherwise they won´t be able to benefit from opportunities digitization undoubtedly offers.
