Italy is currently very much present in international press. There is a lot of talk about the political system in crisis. One could easily overlook that at least in the feuilleton there are more happy news from the “Belpaese”: The biggest architecture exhibition, the Biennale di Architettura in Venice, is open. The president of the Biennale, Paolo Baratta and the two curators from Dublin, Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara, opened the exhibition at the Lido. From the 26th of May until the 25th of November, an impressive number of nations present themselves in the pavillons on the festival area in the Sestiere Castello.
Biennale di Architettura in Venice
“Freespace” is the title of this year´s Biennale Architettura, a word which describes a generosity of spirit and a sense of humanity at the core of architecture´s agenda. 28 countries present their national pavillons to the public. Countries which have not built a pavillon on the festival area, switched to sites and palazzi in the city centre. This offers the one-off opportunity to get access to palazzi which usually remain closed to public visitors. “Freespace” wants to combine past, present and future. Where could this work better than in the architectural highlight of Venice?
